COVENTRY, Conn. (WTNH) -- Coventry Police arrested a 21-year-old man for robbing a barn.
Coventry Police arrested Paul Carter III after responding to a mid-morning call on Oct 6, about a burglary in progress at a barn on Cedar Swamp Road.
The suspect was found by an individual who arrived at the barn he uses for storage, police said. The suspect, who had his vehicle inside the barn while stealing items, was confronted by the victim.
Carter tried to flee in his car but struck the victim's truck, police reported. Carter then jumped into the victim's truck and tried to drive out of the barn, but the victim, believing his truck was being stolen, jumped into his truck and restrained Carter.
Carter then fled the area on food and was later found near his home and arrested without incident, police reported.
Carter was transported to Windham Hospital for a head injury sustained during the burglary when the victim was preventing him from stealing his truck, police said.
The investigation connected Carter to other recent burglaries and larcenies in Coventry. Police said warrants are being applied in these cases.
Carter was charged with third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny, first-degree reckless endangerment, and interfering with an officer. Carter's bond was set at $200,000 and was presented in court for arraignment today.
