LEDYARD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Three Rhode Island men were arrested after fighting with police at a Connecticut casino during the early morning hours on New Year's.
The incident occurred shortly after 2 a.m., at Shrine Night Club at the MGM Grand.
Upon arrival to the night club, on the report of an assault, police were told that the parties involved had left towards the MGM Hotel lobby.
When officers located the parties involved outside near the MGM valet and attempted to arrest 26-year-old Ventura Wilson, he immediately began fighting with officers.
At that time, 25-year-old Jason Robinson also started fighting with officers while attempting to stop them from arresting Wilson. Both were taken into custody after a brief struggle.
Then 24-year-old Curtis Monteiro began pushing MGM Security, and when police went to arrest him, he began fighting with them also. During the fight, Monteiro punched one of the officers and then attempted to grab an officer's firearm from his holster. Police then used a Taser to assist with the arrest.
Monteiro, of 58 Sawyer St., Providence, RI; Wilson, of 186 Peace St., Providence, RI; and Robinson, of 33 Yorkshire St., Providence, RI; were all charged with assault on a police officer, third-degree assault, breach of peace, and interfering with a police officer.
The victim of the original assault at the night club was taken to William Backus Hospital for treatment of injuries.
