NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) — A state judge has sentenced a New London man to eight years in prison for his role in the random killing of a pizza cook in 2010.
The Day of New London reports that 21-year-old Brian Rabell was sentenced Tuesday in New London Superior Court after having pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of 25-year-old Matthew Chew.
Rabell was the third of six defendants to be sentenced for Chew's death. All of them pleaded guilty. The three remaining sentencings are set for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Police say Rabell and five friends beat and fatally stabbed Chew as he walked home from work, after deciding to attack someone at random.
Chew's parents, who live in Arcadia, Calif., are in Connecticut this week for the sentencings.
