NORTH STONINGTON, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut state police say they're preparing arrest warrants in connection with the shootings of two cows on a family dairy farm in North Stonington.
Trooper David Abely told The Day of New London on Wednesday that the charges against the suspects will include cruelty to animals.
Eighteen-year-old Asa Palmer, whose family runs the farm, says three youths known for causing trouble in town are the prime suspects. He says they apparently shot a rifle at 12 cows in a field late Friday or early Saturday. Two cows were shot, including one that had to be put down because its jaw was badly damaged.
North Stonington state Rep. Diana Urban announced Wednesday that a special fund has been set up to help the Palmer family at Chelsea Groton Bank.
