Bridgeport man charged with counterfeiting

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Bridgeport police say they've arrested a man who flooded the city's South End with hundreds of fake $10 and $20 bills.

Police told the Connecticut Post that they charged 21-year-old Jaquon "Grenade" Jones with forgery and conspiracy Wednesday after he made $5,000 in sales of phony bills to undercover officers. Jones was also charged with selling marijuana.

The arrest was the result of a yearlong investigation by the U.S. Secret Service and the State Police Gang Task Force.

Authorities say they searched Jones' garbage and found a large plastic bag filled with $9,800 in fake bills and sheets of cotton paper.

Jones is being held on $50,000 bail. His public defender in two pending drug and motor vehicle cases didn't immediately return a message Friday.
