MASHANTUCKET, Conn. (AP) — The former chairman of the tribe that runs the Foxwoods Resort Casino has been charged with stealing from his Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.
The tribe's current treasurer is also facing the same charges.
Federal prosecutors said Friday that former chairman Michael Thomas and treasurer Steven Thomas are each charged with theft from an Indian tribal organization and theft from an Indian tribal government receiving federal funds.
A spokesman for the tribe did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Authorities say Steven Thomas stole money between 2005 and 2008 when he was assistant director of the tribe's natural resources department. Michael Thomas allegedly stole money between 2007 and 2009 during his tenure as chairman.
The two men are due in federal court Monday in New Haven.
