Nurse's aide charged with assaulting elderly man

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) — State health officials are investigating allegations that a nurse's aide assaulted an 84-year-old resident of a Fairfield nursing home.

The Connecticut Post reports Tina J. Blake of Bridgeport was charged Monday with cruelty to persons, third-degree assault on a victim over 60 and first-degree reckless endangerment.

It was not known Wednesday morning if she is represented by a lawyer.

A spokeswoman for the nursing home, Ludlowe Health Care Center, said Tuesday it complies scrupulously with state and federal regulations regarding patient safety. She would not comment on the allegations because the case is being investigated.

The state Department of Public Health says Ludlowe has previously been cited for failure to ensure proper handling during care, transfers to prevent injury of residents and other allegations.
