MONROE, Conn. (AP) — A watchmaker for Victorinox Swiss Army has been charged with stealing more than $1 million worth of timepieces from his employer.
Police tell the Connecticut Post Gilberto Nieves of Stratford was arrested Thursday after a nearly yearlong investigation into missing inventory at the company.
Police say the watches began disappearing after January, 2011 and an inventory last September found $1,076,000 worth of timepieces had been stolen.
Police say they tracked some of the watches to Texas and their investigation eventually led to Nieves, who has been a watchmaker and watch repairman with the company for since 1997.
Nieves is being held in lieu of $150,000 bond on larceny charges, and is due in Bridgeport Superior Court on Friday.
