ANSONIA, Conn. (WTNH) -- Police are investigating a robbery that took place at a convenience store in Ansonia late Monday night.
The incident happened around 11:15 p.m., at the Xtra Mart, located on Wakelee Avenue.
Police said the suspect, who was carrying a box-cutter type instrument, told the clerk to hand over the money in the drawer. When the clerk complied, the suspect fled the store and ran eastbound on Church St.
A police K-9 tracked the scent, but the scent was lost in the area of 54 Church St. Police believe the suspect may have had a vehicle parked in the area.
The suspect is described as a white man, between 30 and 40 years old, 5'9" to 6' tall, with a greyish-colored mustache, and stocky build. He was wearing a maroon hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and white sneakers at the time of the robbery.
Police believe the suspect may be responsible of 8 other robberies of a similar nature throughout Southwestern Connecticut.
