NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- New Haven police arrested a 29-year-old man that led officers on a pursuit.
On Thursday around 7 p.m. Officer Jose Miranda and David Rivera were notified by Officer John Healy about a man in the Dixwell Avenue area that had a gun.
The two officers approached a group of men in the parking lot of the Elks Club, on Webster Street.
Anthony Hill, 29, of New Haven, matched the suspect's description and was seen trying to sneak away, police said.
Hill moved toward an SUV and reached into his pocket and the officers ordered him to show his hands, police said. Hill took off running and the chase proceeded onto Winter Street, where Hill tossed a black handgun.
Officer Rivera recovered the gun and Officer Miranda pursued Hill and the two officers eventually cornered Hill in the parking lot of 120 Goffe Street, police reported.
Officer Miranda saw Hill had squeezed underneath a red Chevrolet Impala and refused to come out, police said. With the assistance of Officer Marco Francia, Hill was removed from his hiding place and was arrested for carrying a pistol without a permit and interfering with police.
The .40 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun was taken as evidence.
