NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTNH)-- A man was arrested after stabbing a victim multiple times in New Britain, on Friday afternoon.
Police located the male victim at 131 North Street at 4:30 PM, suffering from stab wounds in the neck, chest, stomach, and buttocks.
The victim was taken to an area trauma center for treatment and remains in serious condition.
The incident was captured on video, which provided an accurate description of the suspect, police said.
Police say on Saturday, they arrested Heriberto Benitez, 20, in the area of Bond Street, after he was found to be in possession of a quantity of marijuana that was packaged for sale.
Police noticed Benitez had similar physical characteristics as the the stabbing suspect. Benitez' lower lip was swollen and he had a bruised appearance, consistent with a person who had been hit in the mouth.
Police also saw he had a recent laceration to the lower part of his right hand index finger, consistent of having been in a fight with a cutting instrument.
After his drug arrest, the stabbing victim positively identified Benitez as the suspect. He also later confessed to the stabbing to detectives.
Benitez was charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, assault, criminal attempt to commit assault, as well as drug charges.
He is being held on $400,000 bond and set to appear in court on March 18th.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact New Britain police at 860-826-3120.
