NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- New Haven Police charged a man for assaulting his brother with a monkey wrench over an argument about a lady.
Police were sent to 98 Sherman Ave at 1:30 am on Wednesday for a domestic call and spotted Sherman White, walking away from the home. Police noticed injuries on his face and hand.
Sherman told police the fight started when he told his mother that his brother, Elijah White was planning to have a lady friend over to spend the night. He said Elijah was angry, retrieved a monkey wrench, and while threatening to kill him, struck him several times with the wrench, knocking out his dentures.
Officers then spoke with Elijah, who admitted they fought, but claimed Sherman was the instigator.
Elijah told police he asked his brother to listen for his friend and wake him up when she got there because his hearing aids were off. Elijah was infuriated with his brother when he woke up, realizing how late it was and saw several missed calls on his phone.
Elijah said Sherman rose from the couch, removed his dentures and took a fighting stance, police reported.
After officers sorted out the stories, Elijah White was arrested and charged with second-degree assault and second-degree reckless endangerment.
Sherman White was charged with breach of peace and was released on his promise to appear in court.
