HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - An attorney for a former Granby police captain facing sentencing for child pornography says his client was sexually molested as a child and suffered post-traumatic stress disorder from responding to numerous gruesome accidents over the years.

Attorney Richard Brown said in court papers Wednesday that an evaluation by a psychologist concluded David Bourque suffered PTSD which affected his judgment. He said it did not excuse his conduct but could be used to determine an appropriate sentence.

Prosecutors say Bourque was caught with more than 26,000 images and videos of child pornography on his computers that showed the sexual abuse of young boys, including infants and toddlers.

Bourque pleaded guilty last year to receipt and distribution of child pornography. He faces 17 to 20 years in prison at his sentencing Friday.
