Avon, Connecticut (WTNH) - Police say they want to speak to a Massachusetts man whose family was found slain in their Winchester, Massachusetts home Wednesday. The man they are looking also has family members in Avon.
43-year-old Thomas Mortimer's wife, two children and mother-in-law were found slain inside their Winchester home. Police are calling it a quadruple homicide, calling the scene inside the Windsong Lane home "horrific" and "unspeakable."
The victims have been identified as Thomas Mortimer, age 4; Charlotte Mortimer, age 2; the children’s mother, Laura Stone Mortimer, age 41; and Laura’s mother, Ragna Ellen Stone, age 64.
Connecticut State Police spent much of the day at the Mortimer's parent's Avon home on Stony Corners Circle. While News 8 was asked by investigators to leave the Avon property Wednesday night, Mortimer's father told the Boston Globe on the phone that things seemed "... pretty fine. It's hard to understand what happened."
Becky Sahl, a neighbor, told News 8 the family was "very friendly, kind, from what I can tell. Nice people, friendly people."
"I think if he saw the police, he wouldn't come here," said Randy Ball, a resident on Stony Corners Circle.
The victims were found dead at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday after other family members said they had not been able to reach them since Monday night.
Laura Stone Mortimer is an economist with the commercial real estate firm CB Richard Ellis. Mortimer is a software salesman. Police say he has no criminal record.
The Chief Medical Examiner in Massachusetts will conduct the autopsies.
Conn. State Police Lieutenant Paul Vance says their agency is helping the Mass. State Police with the investigation in any way possible.
