NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A New Haven man was taken to the hospital after he was discovered bleeding on the street early Tuesday morning.
Shortly after midnight, police responded to the area of Dixwell Avenue and Hazel Street for shots fired. As officers neared the location, the dispatcher notified them of reports being phoned in of a person shot.
The victim was already en route to the hospital in a Nissan when police arrived at the scene.
Officers then went to St. Raphael's campus of Yale-New Haven Hospital, where the victim was taken. Upon arrival, they saw the Nissan parked out front with its hazard lights on and blood in the back seat.
The car's driver told police he'd spotted a bleeding man crawling on the street. He stopped, picked him up and drove him to the hospital.
It was determined that the driver was not involved in the shooting.
The victim, 39-year-old Michael Jones, was shot once in the right ankle and once in the right hand. His injuries are non-life threatening.
Jones didn't provide any information on the suspects.
