BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) -- A man who police say refused to drop a knife he was holding was shot and wounded by police in Bridgeport.
The incident occurred around 9:00 o'clock Thursday night near the intersection of Atlantic Street and Park Avenue near the University of Bridgeport campus.
Officers said there was a man allegedly wielding a knife and making threats. Officers tried pepper spray and a stun gun on the suspect, but when he still didn't drop the knife the officers fired.
"They felt threatened," Bridgeport police Chief Joseph Gaudett said. "They used everything in their power; they used different means of restraint. everything in their power before using deadly force."
The unidentified suspect was hit three times.
"No officers were hurt," Chief Gaudett said. "Shaken up certainly after the ordeal."
The man was taken to the hospital. Police say it is not a fatal shooting.
