Teen charged in hit and run

Canton girl critically injured

Canton, Conn. (WTNH) - A Simsbury teenager has been charged in the hit and run of a seven year old Canton girl.

Annabeth Melendez was crossing Dowd Avenue with her father on January 26th when she was struck, literally knocking the shoes off her feet. She was hospitalized with critical injuries.

Leontina Scanlon, 18, surrendered to police today. She has been charged with evading responsibility and was released on a $2,500 bond.

Annabeth has since been released from the hospital.
