GRISWOLD, Conn. (WTNH) - Police in Griswold are investigating a disturbing case of animal cruelty.

A cat has been shot in the face with an arrow, and he is making a miraculous recovery.

Fortunately, Coffee the cat is back to eating hard cat food, just a week and a half after someone shot an arrow through his face.

Annmarie Jenkins came home on Oct. 23, to find 14-year-old Coffee with an arrow shot right through his face. He was struggling to run up to her.

"I was like don't do that you know, cause he was tripping over the arrow, it was stuck. So he was trying to run with it, waggling back and forth with it in his skin," says Jenkins.

The arrow which went right through Coffee's cheek and out his chin also pushed some of his teeth loose. It will take a month or so for him to heal, but already he's shown signs of quick recovery.

"He's doing better. He's eating and drinking, and he's walking around by himself again, and he's not afraid to go outside anymore," says Jenkins.

Jenkins had to pay $1,000 up front to get the arrow removed. She didn't think twice about it.

"It wasn't a life threatening injury, it was just something that was painful for him. So he didn't understand what was happening," says Jenkins.

She can't understand why anyone would do such a thing to an easy going and loving animal or any animal for that matter, even if he went into their yard. She's hoping someone will come forward. State police and the DEEP are investigating.

"They both told me that it had to be someone who was trying to kill the cat," says Jenkins.

After the incident, Jenkins' son Charles went into the woods, and he found an arrow which is very similar to the one used to shoot the cat. The only difference was that arrow had the end cut off of it.
