NEWINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) -- A clerk at a Newington 7-Eleven was assaulted after she called a customer "honey."

Officers were called to the store on Willard Avenue around 5:20 p.m. on Monday.

The clerk told officers that when she told a customer a price she called him "honey." The customer told her if she did it again, he would punch her in the face.

Police say the customer reached over the counter and punched the woman in the face after she questioned his intentions.

The man was pushed out of the store by another customer and fled the scene.

The woman was able to provide a description of the man's car and officers arrested 52-year-old David Wright a short while later.

Wright was charged with second degree breach of peace and third degree assault. He was released on a $5,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in New Britain Court on August 13.
