BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — A federal judge has sentenced a West Haven man to one year and one day in prison for being a felon in illegal possession of a bullet proof vest and a firearm.
Marquis Evans was also sentenced Thursday to three years of supervised release.
Federal law bans a person previously convicted of a violent felony to possess or receive a bullet proof vest or gun that has traveled across state lines or national borders.
U.S. District Attorney says Evans was convicted in June 2005 in Connecticut state court of first-degree robbery.
In August 2010, the 23-year-old Evans was arrested after police recovered a pistol in the car he was driving. Nine days later, he transferred a backpack containing a bullet proof vest to a person working with law enforcement officers.
