DERBY, Conn. (AP) — A Shelton man denies he paid a 17-year-old to beat up a girl who was bullying his daughter.
Phillip Prokop made a brief court appearance Thursday on a charge of inciting injury.
Prosecutors allege Prokop paid $21 to have a 17-year-old boy hurt the 13-year-old girl.
Prokop was arrested several hours after a May 26 fight involving the teens at a local diner.
Outside of court, Prokop told the New Haven Register he paid the 17-year-old for some landscaping work he had done.
He says he asked the young man to "mediate" a dispute on behalf of his daughter. He says he was arrested for "saving his daughter's life."
