Conn. pharmacist sentenced for prescription fraud

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — A Killingly pharmacist has been sentenced to two years of probation for writing and fulfilling fraudulent pain killer and other prescriptions for relatives and friends.

The Hartford Courant reports that Daniel Fiore had pleaded guilty to unlawfully dispensing controlled substances.

He was sentenced in U.S. District Court in New Haven on Thursday for illegally dispensing generic Vicodin, Valium, Xanax, Halcion and other drugs in 2009 and 2010 as the owner of a Killingly pharmacy.

The 60-year-old Fiore also was accused of writing fraudulent prescriptions to conceal his actions.

And he was fined $20,000 during sentencing.

Fiore must serve his first six months of probation in home confinement.
