(WTNH) - A man who killed his former girlfriend, is now out on parole.
The twists and turns of this case shocked the legal system, and led to some changes.
It was 1987 when Kenneth Curtis shot ex-girlfriend Donna Kalsan, then shot himself in the head. It all happened outside a Stratford restaurant.
He was considered to have brain damage and was declared mentally incompetent to stand trial. He was released with no conditions.
However, News 8 found him not only taking classes at Southern Connecticut State University, but excelling, earning A's and B's.
The story resulted in Curtis' arrest and eventual conviction and sentence to 20 years in prison.
Now, after serving about half that, he is out on parole.
Officials won't disclose where Curtis is currently living, only that he is under the supervision of the Norwich parole office.
Under the conditions of the parole, Curtis can't have any contact with the victim's family.
