TRUMBULL, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut lawyer whose website says he once worked at the White House and for former New York Congressman Jack Kemp has been charged with embezzling more than $200,000 from the accounts of his now-dead aunt.
The Connecticut Post reports that 57-year-old Fairfield lawyer Rik Backman was charged with first-degree larceny Tuesday and posted $20,000 bail.
Police allege Bachman took over the affairs of his elderly aunt, Beatrice Bachman, in 2009 and made large withdrawals from her bank accounts for his personal use. Authorities also say that even after Beatrice Bachman died last June at age 85, Rik Bachman bought sports memorabilia and had it sent to his aunt's former room at an assisted living facility where he picked it up.
Bachman's lawyer denies the allegations.
