VERNON, Conn. (WTNH) -- A Putnam man was arrested for allegedly passing nearly $22,000 worth of counterfeit checks.
35-year-old Joshua Calvin McRae was arrested after a lengthy investigation by Vernon police.
Police say he was wanted on charges he organized a counterfeit check ring. The scheme passed at least 37 counterfeit checks in 16 different towns across three different states between January 23 and February 29.
The scheme targeted banks and grocery stores, as well as the United Services Automobile Association (USAA).
The 37 checks amounted to $21,923.40.
He was arraigned at Rockville Superior Court on Tuesday morning. He is incarcerated pending cases in other jurisdictions.
The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.
