NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A New Haven man was arrested after police caught him wheeling a stove away from a home that had been burglarized.

New Haven police were called to 48 Platt Street around 9:20 p.m. Saturday night to investigate a burglary in progress. As they pulled up to the home, they spotted a man wheeling a stove down the street on a hand-truck.

Brian Howard, 45, told the officers that he had found it in the backyard of 48 Platt Street.

The officers went around back and found a back window had been smashed, the back door was open and there was an empty space in the second floor apartment where a stove used to be.

Howard was arrested and charged with second degree burglary and sixth degree larceny.

The stove was returned to the apartment.
