WETHERSFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Police in Wethersfield are searching for a suspect who is said to have followed a woman home from the grocery store and then robbed her in her driveway.
The woman told police she was robbed at gunpoint in her driveway on Pine Lane in Wethersfield by a black man between 35 and 40-years-old. He is about 6' tall with a slender build. He was wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans.
Police say this suspect is considered to be armed and dangerous.
"Yes, it is scary. Oh usually I just never look back, I just get in the car and just get out, wow," said Maria Torres of Newington.
The incident happened around 10:52 a.m. on Friday morning. The suspect took off with cash and the woman's debit card.
The woman told police she believed the suspect had followed her home from the Stop & Shop on Town Line Road in Rocky Hill. Police believe he was driving a white Chrysler 300 with Connecticut marker plates.
The woman was not injured in the robbery.
Similar incidents were reported in Berlin and New Britain earlier in the month. Police say they have narrowed down the car to a 2005-2010 Chrysler 300 Limited, “Cool Vanilla” color, with stock rims, which look aftermarket but are not, and tan interior. Police say there might be an EZPass transponder or a parking permit just below the rear view mirror.
Officers also say the rear third brake light, which is in the rear window, might be burnt out.
Law enforcement are advising residents to be aware of their surroundings and now check your rear view mirror as you leave the parking lot and all the way home as a safety precaution.
"If you are being followed don't go home. Stop here at the police station, go to another public area and that car will leave," said Berlin Police Chief Paul Fitzgerald.
"I'll be more careful," Torres said. "Look in and around when I get in and out of the car."
Anyone with information or who may have seen this suspect and vehicle is asked to call the Wethersfield Police Department at (860) 721-2900.
