NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) - When the FBI arrived in Niantic at the home of a man previously charged with impersonating a police officer and stealing a $1 million painting, the focus was turned on to his wife.
Linda McDougal, 51 is accused of writing fraudulent prescriptions for xanax, alprazolam, hydrocodone, acetaminophen, and vicodin.
The raid happened at the home on White Birch Circle. Linda's husband, Charlie McDougal who at one point was a volunteer firefighter before getting in trouble with the law said hr wanted authorities to go away.
"I'm telling you guys to get the hell out of here," says Charlie McDougal.
He was charged with impersonating a police officer back in January 2009, when he pulled a woman over, and yelled at her about her driving.
"You're taking a good person and you're going to destroy their lives around here. Trust me on that," says Charlie McDougal.
The FBI arrested his wife Thursday morning, and charged her with fraudulently writing prescriptions. The FBI says she called in prescriptions to a Walmart pharmacy for herself and relatives, including her husband. She worked as an office manager at a New London doctor's office from early 2006 to January 2009. That office was closed today. The office where she currently works now was also shut down on the day of her arrest.
"I hope you choke. Put that on the news," says Charlie McDougal.
One nearby neighbor said he had not idea about the FBI raid.
A North Stonington couple was also arrested in connection with the McDougal crime. Susan Turitto, 53 and her husband Craig Levine,54, face similar charges.
Turitto is a friend of Linda McDougal's. She replaced her at the New London medical office when McDougal left in 2009.
