GROTON, Conn. (WTNH/AP) -- A Groton couple was arrested for animal cruelty after police say their dog died after it was left in a car for an extended period of time.
Heidi Hunter, 21, and Gabriel Hunter, 22, were arrested after police say their 8-year-old shepherd mix was left in a hot car overnight and found dead on July 8.
Both were charged with cruelty to animals and released on promises to appear in court on September 6.
Groton police ask residents who spot pets unattended in a vehicle to report it to Animal Control at 860-441-6709 or the police at 860-441-6712.
