Milford, Conn. (WTNH) - Milford's outgoing superintendent of schools entered a not guilty plea this morning to sex assault charges.
An umbrella obscured the view of Superintendent Harvey Polansky as he left Milford Superior Court Thursday. Inside, his attorney had requested a continuance of the case until June, but the judge gave them until April.
"There's a lot of different people that are potentially witnesses or have some information and they need to be potentially interviewed," defense attorney Fred Paoletti said.
Two principals in the school district have accused Polansky of sexual harassment. They claim he repeatedly kissed them, hugged them and touched their backsides.
In an independent report submitted to the school board Polansky admitted to some wrongdoing, but has denied the criminal charges -- two counts each of sexual assault in the 4th degree and breach of peace.
"Charges do carry jail time," Paoletti said. "One would think though because of the nature of the charges and given his lack of a prior record and good character to date that it would not result in a jail sentence, but that is still a possibility."
If Polansky's convicted, the breach of peace charge could bring six months, sexual assault up to a year. It's still in the very early stages of this and Polansky maintains his innocence.
"Pled not guilty to all charges," Paoletti said.
Polanksy's position as superintendent is also up in the air. He refused to sign an agreement to resign and has filed for retirement, but the district wants to fire him.
Polansky will be back in court on April 20th.
