BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (CTPost.com) -- A young child found in the middle of a busy street was nearly run over Thursday night, while his father thought the toddler was in his room, asleep.
Xavier Gilson, 29, of Wayne Street, was charged with risk of injury to a minor and the state Department of Children and Families was notified of the incident.
A woman told police that she was driving on on Wayne Street shortly before 10 p.m. when she noticed something in the road. She turned on her high beams and saw the little boy. "She immediately slammed on the brakes, got out of the car, grabbed the baby and called police,'' according to the incident report.
