Seymour, Conn. (WTNH) - Police want people in the valley to be on alert following some brazen daytime home burglaries.
It started several weeks ago. About a dozen robberies have been reported all over the town of Seymour with activity picking up as the holidays approach. On Tuesday alone, three robberies were reported.
This crime spree has police in Seymour mobilizing resources and spreading throughout the town to track down the culprits.
Lt. Paul Satkowski said, "I want the public to know the Police force is taking steps to either eliminate these crimes and bring the people responsible to justice."
Many of the residents news 8 spoke with were hearing about the crime spree for the first time, although Jennifer Tatigian had a feeling about a week ago, that something was up.
"Police coming from downtown. They turned their lights and siren off when they got to my house and then they just flew up the road," Tatigian said. "So I was thinking it was a burglary that they were trying to sneak up on someone."
Jewelry, money and electronics are the targets items in most of these break-ins. Most of the occurrences happen in broad daylight. They are brazen acts from apparently fearless criminals.
"This time of year, they steal and they think they can get away with it. It's crazy," said Seymour resident Linda Poje.
"A couple of years ago there was a rash of burglaries around here," said Andy Seaman. "So it doesn't shock me. Nowadays, nothing shocks me."
While the authorities increase their presence and do their detective work, they encourage residents to be vigilant and protect their property.
"I keep the doors locked all the time, but it makes me nervous because of what happened in Cheshire," said Tatigian. "My daughter comes home from college and I'm always saying, lock the doors, lock the doors."
With the combination of increased police resources and neighbors watching out for each other, Seymour police hope to apprehend those responsible for these crimes as quickly as possible.
Seymour police say they have identified a person of interest, but no arrests have been made.
