Death of 20-year-old ruled a homicide

Norwalk, Conn. (WTNH) - Police have ruled the shooting death of a 20-year-old Norwalk man a homicide.

Police say they do not have any suspects at the moment. However, police say they believe 20-year-old Joseph Bateman was killed because he was a witness to the August 2010 murder of Amos Brown Jr.

Brown had been acquitted of stabbing another person, but was later killed. Police believe Brown's murder was related to the stabbing incident, and his ultimate acquittal in that case.

Bateman was shot in the area of Avalon Gates Apartments at 26 Belden Avenue in Norwalk just before 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3.

Police are still investigating Brown's murder. No arrests have been made in either murder.

Anyone with information on either murder is asked to contact the Norwalk Police Detective Bureau at 203-854-3011 or 203-854-3192.
