Groton, Conn. (WTNH) -- A 37-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stealing an elderly woman's purse in Groton Monday afternoon.

The incident happened around 3:30 p.m., at a business on Route 12.

Upon arrival, the 75-year-old female victim told police that the suspect forcefully took her purse from her arm and ran towards a local man.

After investigating, police were able to locate Thomas W. Walders at a local motel. Walders was uncooperative, fighting with and assaulting officers during the booking procedure.

Walders was charged with third-degree robbery, second-degree larceny, breach of peace, assaulting an officer, and interfering with an officer.

He is being held on a $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on Tuesday.

Walders also has outstanding arrest warrants from several area Police Departments totaling $285,000 in bonds.
