NORWALK, Conn. (AP) — Former Norwalk city councilor and boxing champion Travis Simms is free on $1,000 bond after police shocked him with a Taser and arrested him during an alleged confrontation.
Simms faces charges including second degree breach of peace after the incident Sunday night.
The 41-year-old Simms is a former World Boxing Association light middleweight champion and served two years on the city council.
Norwalk police said they were called to a large disturbance involving the widow of Simms' adopted brother and Simms was among those who refused to leave.
They said Simms screamed at police and strongly resisted when officers tried to handcuff him, so they used the Taser to subdue him.
Simms didn't respond to requests for comment by local media.
Simms was also arrested in 2010 after an alleged fight with his twin brother.
