Ex-head of Conn. housing project pleads guilty

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — A woman who worked for years to build a housing complex in Connecticut for seriously ill children has pleaded guilty to misrepresenting how she spent an $836,000 federal grant.

The Hartford Courant reports that 55-year-old Amy Kuhner, who headed the Sunshine House project in Madison, entered the plea in federal court in New Haven on Wednesday. Prosecutors said Kuhner, who now lives in Ohio, admitted to falsely stating that she spent $594,225 on architectural and engineering services. They said she failed to mention spending almost $418,000 on salary and almost $23,000 on health insurance. The project since failed.

Neither Kuhner nor her lawyer could be reached for comment. Duo Dickinson, who sat on the board, said Kuhner thought she was spending the money properly. He called it a misunderstanding.
