Family friend accused of sexual assault

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- New Haven police arrested a 29-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a family friend.
Police were called to Farren Ave. on Wednesday afternoon to investigate a sexual assault report.Police said when they arrived, Byron Leonardo Cardeenas was on the phone in the back yard and said "the police are about to arrest me,” in Spanish.
When police asked about his phone call, Cardeenas said a woman accused him of assaulting her. As he was being detained, a woman came outside and said, “That’s him.”
The victim described Cardeenas as a family friend and said she fought him off while her two-year-old daughter stood by her side crying and yelling.
Cardeenas was arrested and charged for fourth-degree sexual assault, second-degree unlawful restraint, second-degree strangulation, risk of injury to a minor and third-degree assault.
