MERIDEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- The family of a gas station clerk who was killed during a robbery in Meriden is speaking out, as they try to move on in the wake of the tragedy.
The loss of Ibrahim Ghazal has created a fusion of grief and anger that is boiling over, and directed at one man.
"I wish you die the same way my father died," said Eyad Ghazal. "You are evil, you shouldn't be among us."
"Hope to God they catch you, before I catch you," said Odaie Ghazal, grandson. "Hope to God you don't run into me."
How does one control emotion after such a significant loss? Ghazal's reputation was one of kindness and generosity, which his family feels was preyed upon by Frankie Resto, who is listed as a "person of interest" by the Meriden Police Department.
"You should suffer," said Zaed Ghazal, "you should suffer, one of your limbs should be cut off every single day."
The family is unfairly going through so much right now, but one of the most haunting things is that Ghazel gave the suspect the money. He did what he was told and he still got shot.
"He gave you the money, why shoot him," Zaed asked. "Why? Why take his life away from all these people? He was an excellent man."
The family says the Meriden community and the police have been an unbelievable support system. The store will live on, it will be named after Ghazel, but the pain, the grief and the anger lingers.
"Every morning, for all his grandchildren, he would bring us chocolates," said Zaed. "The night my grandfather died, I woke up in the morning, I wish there would be a bag of chocolates next to me. Guess what, there wasn't."
