EAST HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — A former East Haven police officer charged in a discrimination investigation has been ordered to be placed under house arrest on charges that he violated his release conditions by illegally hunting and trespassing.

David Cari was one of four East Haven officers arrested by federal agents last year for allegedly abusing and harassing Latinos. Cari was arrested again last week on charges of illegal deer hunting. Prosecutors say he cannot be trusted to obey the law. He was not permitted to possess a firearm.

The New Haven Register reports that Cari was ordered on Thursday to 24-hour confinement to his mother's house. .

His lawyer, Alex Hernandez, would not comment on the charges, but said Cari will fight the accusations in court.

Cari and another former officer are awaiting trial in the alleged discrimination case.
