MANCHESTER, Conn. (WTNH) -- A former Fire Chief was arrested for submitting a letter that qualified members of the department for a tax abatement when not all were eligible.
Manchester Police received a complaint on July 2, 2012 from the President of the 8th District board of directors that there were missing documents which created a discrepancy regarding tax abatement's to members of the districts fire department.
According to a press release, every year members of the Fire Department are eligible for a $400 tax abatement if they:
1. Are a volunteer firefighter for the Manchester Fire Department, Eighth Utilities District and has achieved one year of service by July 1st prior to commencement of an assessment year
2. Have responded to at least 120 emergency calls during the last two point periods (a minimum of 25 of which must be mutual aid calls)
3. The individual does not have any tax delinquency to either the Town of Manchester or 8th Utilities District by the date of the certification (May 15 of each year)
Following an investigation, the former 8th District Fire Chief Paul Littrico is accused of submitting a letter that certified 17 members for the tax abatement when only 3 of the members were actually eligible.
Littrico turned himself in on an active arrest warrant charging him with second-degree larceny, defrauding of a public community and false entry by a public official.
Bond was set at $5,000 and a court date was set for Jan. 8.
