Former Torrington officer charged with computer crimes

TORRINGTON, Conn. (AP) - A former Torrington police office has been charged with dozens of computer and forgery crimes including claims that he improperly accessed police databases.

Fifty-year-old-old Hector Medina was arrested Wednesday and posted $21,000 bail. Authorities declined to release details of the charges. Medina resigned from the department as officials prepared to fire him last summer.

Medina's lawyer declined to comment.

The Republican-American of Waterbury reports Medina raised questions before he resigned about police officials' handling of an internal affairs investigation into a suspected DUI traffic stop of a police captain's girlfriend. The driver wasn't charged, and the internal affairs probe cleared the officers of wrongdoing.

Medina claimed he was unfairly disciplined for an unrelated DUI stop while officers in the case of the captain's girlfriend were allowed to skip protocol.
