HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) — A former University of Rhode Island basketball player has been shot in Connecticut.
Police say 26-year-old Keith Cothran suffered a head wound and was shot several times while sitting in a car in Hamden on Wednesday night.
The New Haven Register reports Cothran was able to walk across the street to a gas station to get help.
The New Haven native was transported to a local hospital, but his condition was not available Friday. He was not listed as a patient at either of the city's major hospitals.
Police seized Cothran's car as evidence, but no arrests have been made.
Cothran played guard for Rhode Island, helping the Rams to the 2010 NIT semifinals. URI's athletic director had no information on his condition but called him a "very special young man."
