BEACON FALLS, Conn. (WTNH) -- A Beacon Falls man was arrested after police found him in possession of illegal fireworks.

Police were called to Highland Avenue around 7 p.m. on July 4 to investigate a report of fireworks.

Officers met with Richard Poniatowski, 50, who admitted he bought fireworks out of state for his annual 4th of July picnic.

Poniatowski consented to a search and police found additional fireworks in his car. A quantity of 1.4G consumer fireworks were among the items seized.

He was arrested and charged with possession of illegal fireworks. He was released on a promise to appear at Superior Court in Derby on July 20.

No one was injured by the fireworks.
