Getaway driver sentenced in murder of teen

WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) -- A Waterbury man was sentenced to 25 years in jail after he plead guilty for his role in the death of a teenager.

Seeing Rayshaun Bugg sentenced for murder is one step out many still to come for a family looking for justice.

"I'm going to be here until it's over. I'm not going nowhere. I'm going to be here until it's done and said and my son can rest," said Nellie Robinson.

Her son John Frazier was shot and killed on his 17th birthday. Police arrested three men. They say Anthony Collymore and Vance Wilson tried to rob Frazier and shot him in the back when he ran. Bugg pled guilty to driving the getaway car.

Bugg was given the opportunity for a much shorter sentence. It involved him testifying against the other two, but the court ruled that when he did testify, he didn't tell the truth, so that deal was thrown out.

Instead Bugg listened as John Frazier's family made tearful pleas to the judge.

"He accomplished everything fast," Robinson said. "He already knew what college he was going to, he knew what career he wanted to."

"What we seek now is the impossible. We can never hear Jon Jon's voice again, hear his laughter and see all his success," said his cousin, Hector Torres.

Bugg's attorney was the only one to speak on his behalf saying Bugg was only the driver.

However the judge told Bugg this never would have happened without his involvement. He sentenced Bugg to 25 years for felony murder.
 
"It's like every time I come to court it's like reliving it all over again," Robinson said, "but I'm holding up."

Of the other two defendants, Vance Wilson has pled guilty and agreed to testify against Anthony Collymore, who is now awaiting trial.
