Girl speaks out about being bullied

SHELTON, Conn. (WTNH) -- Her father was arrested and accused of paying a teenager $21 dollars to beat up a girl she says was bullying her at school. The girl and her dad spoke with News 8's Erin Logan about what she went through and what they claim happened the night he was arrested.

"It got really bad," said Rose Prokop. "People would always make comments about me, put me down, look at me differently."

Her soft spoken voice just couldn't hold back anymore, 15 year-old Rose shares the Facebook posts kids wrote about her and how she felt.

"Hurt, sad, scared, at the same time," Rose said.

In late May, she went home and told her dad and her family about how she was being treated by kids at school. She says boys and girls were verbally abusing her and pushing her.

"A couple of times there were rumors that I was pregnant," Rose said, "and as I'd be walking down the hall guys would be running after me, grabbing my stomach saying, 'how far along are you?'"

Rose says there was one girl in particular that was getting to her and she wanted her to stop.

"She wrote something on Facebook," Rose said, "'I love how you're spreading rumors about me. I thought the only thing you could spread are your legs.'"

"And how did that make you feel," asked Logan.

"Terrible, because I'm not that type of girl," said Rose.

Now, Rose's dad, 42-year-old Philip Prokop is facing two felony charges and conspiracy to commit assault because of his alleged involvement with confronting the bully outside Shelton's Huntington Plaza on May 26th.

Police say he paid a teenager $21 to beat up the girl who was bullying his daughter at Shelton Intermediate School.

Prokop says he and his daughter showed up at Sassafras Diner because they were informed she was there. He wanted to be with his daughter when she confronted the alleged bully. From there, things got out of control.

"I introduced myself and who I was and who my daughter was and I told them to stop bullying my daughter, and the next thing there was a girl on the ground," Philip said. "The girl that bullied my daughter was on top of that girl beating her face in."

He says that's when he was going to stop it and another girl came from behind him, and he wiggled himself away. Hours later, he was arrested.

"I don't think he'd pay someone $21 to beat up a kid, for then the kid to get beat up," Rose said.

Prokop is confident he'll be cleared.

He'll be in Derby Superior Court Monday.
