Ansonia, Conn. (WTNH) - Three people, including a 70-year-old woman, were arrested when police discovered they were operating a drug factory out of their Ansonia home.
John Uhlig Jr., 33, was pulled over by police around 1:30 the morning of Feb. 16. Police were able to find a large amount of marijuana and cocaine inside the car, as well as a loaded handgun and a shotgun.
Police then obtained a search warrant for Uhlig's home on North Prospect Street where they found 1.4 pounds of marijuana and 6.5 ounces of cocaine.
Uhling and his wife, Jenny Uhlig, 31, were both arrested and face charges of operating a drug factory, various possession charges and sale of illegal drugs. The couple's two minor children live in the home, along with the kid's grandmother 70-year-old Diana Buswell.
Buswell was arrested and charged with risk of injury to a minor, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and sale of a controlled substance.
Neighbors tell News 8 they never saw anything suspicious, and a friend insists Jenny Uhlig was not dealing drugs.
"I promise you one-hundred percent, I've been beside her for 16 years and she's devoted her whole life to her kids," said a long time neighbor. "She did not know his lifestyle, and what we did, we didn't see him, if we saw him, it was coming and going, we knew he played cards, he always had."
Uhlig Jr. is said to be a youth basketball coach and semi-professional poker player. He was held on a $250,000.00 bond while both women were released on $10,000.00 non-surety-bonds.
