GUILFORD, Conn. (WTNH)-- A Guilford woman was arrested Monday on a federal criminal complaint, charging her with bank fraud for the forgery scheme, involving hundreds of stolen checks from a couple who she babysat for.
Ashley Rose,22, stole more than 250 checks between April 2011 and April 2012, from the married couple who employed her as a babysitter.
U.S. Attorney David B. Fein says, Rose forged the signature of one of her employers on the stolen checks and made them payable to herself in various amounts. She then deposited them into her own bank account before making more than $80,000 cash withdrawals from her account.
Rose appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Holly B. Fitzsimmons in Bridgeport, on Monday, and was released on bond.
The matter is being investigated by the United States Secret Service and prosecuted by the Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Kerry L. Quinn.
