HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A Hartford woman has pleaded to a reduced charge in connection with the stabbing death of her boyfriend.

Denicka Gaddy was charged with murder following the May 2009 stabbing death of Kenneth Waden during what authorities described as a domestic dispute.

Prosecutors say the 27-year-old Gaddy pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter on Thursday under the Alford doctrine, meaning she did not admit guilt, but conceded the state had evidence that could cause a jury to convict her.

Prosecutors told the judge it would have been difficult to prove a murder charge and the suspect was claiming self defense.

A judge must approve the deal. If approved, Gaddy faces five years in prison at sentencing in January.
