NEWTOWN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A Newtown man has been arrested for the murder of his wife, who disappeared back in 1984.
68-year-old John Heath is being held on a $1 million bond.
He was arrested Monday night after a warrant was issued for his arrest. The motive, police say, is that he didn't want to have anymore children. The couple had one daughter.
It was 1984 when Heath walked into the Newtown Police Department to report his wife Elizabeth was missing. He had filed for divorce days before.
The years passed; Heath raised their daughter and eventually got remarried.
Her skeletal remains were found in April 2010 at the Newtown home where they lived together before she disappeared. They were found under floor boards in a barn.
Her cause of death was blunt force trauma.
Newtown Police say there is no one piece of evidence rather a series of circumstantial circumstances supporting the murder charge.
"He has said nothing to implicate himself in this crime," said Police Chief Michael Kehoe.
News 8 has learned there were moving vans outside Heath's Bridgewater home this weekend, though his wife refused to comment as she was leaving court.
Heath was arraigned in Danbury Superior Court Tuesday morning.
He is scheduled to appear in court again on June 16 for a probable cause hearing.
