BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (CTPost.com) -- Police said a city man fatally shot an acquaintance early Monday and was preparing to dump the body in Remington Woods when he was arrested.

Police Capt. James Viadero said the victim is a local man, but wouldn't release his name until after the autopsy Tuesday morning. However family members confirmed Monday that the victim was Daniel Speller, of Worth Street. Speller is the 16th homicide victim in the city this year, the second in less than a week.

James Cunningham, 41, of Pricilla Street, was charged with murder and illegally disposing of a body in connection with the case. He was being held in lieu of $1 million bond pending arraignment in state Superior Court on Tuesday.
